Several reports have posited that the pandemic disproportionately affected vulnerable populations and single-family and two-family homeowners in cities. Alternatively, rent prices also sharply declined during the pandemic's peak in 2020, increasing the affordability of better housing opportunities. Although it may be challenging to identify the inflection points, it can be concluded that the pandemic catalyzed, if not brought about, tremendous changes in cities at an unprecedented scale. To quantify these changes, a data-driven, empirical exploration is of utmost importance. This paper investigates the temporal effects of COVID-19 on the housing market in New York City, aims to identify and visualize trends, and determines correlations of real estate prices with other associated attributes, including 311 building complaints data, waste collection complaint volumes, and subway ridership data.
