NYCSBUS APP
Geospatial +AR
NYCSBUS operates a fleet of 1,000 vehicles across 5 yards. A yard can have 250 vehicles at a time. “morning pull outs” from the yard are a crucial time to ensure on time service. While each vehicle is equipped with a GPS device, the act of finding a bus in a crowded yard can be daunting. NYCSB staff need to be able to identify buses quickly to ensure smoother morning pull outs. An augmented reality mobile app that integrates with the telematics API would allow staff to quickly point a camera and search for a vehicle with minimal input. The school bus drivers also face the problem of accessibility to restrooms across New York City creating serious health hazards. The app lets the Bus drivers find nearest restrooms from their current location.
-
Developed and executed a product strategy and roadmap for NYCSBUS, leading to the creation of a AR and geospatial app
-
Implemented calculations for the app to transform 2D map coordinates into 3D space points for AR View, resulting in a 25% reduction in location and orientation based inaccuracies for seamless user interaction
-
Engineered the use of Geotab sensor data for 1000 school buses to drive AR functionality within the app, efficiently cutting bus locating time in parking areas by 75%, while increasing operational efficiency for the NYCSBUS team
-
Developed an app feature to locate restrooms for bus drivers in real time AR, integrating 600+ locations across New York City, resulting in a 70% improvement in driver accessibility to public restrooms.
